The 2nd International Symposium on AI for Electrochemistry (iSAIEC 2025) was successfully held at Xiamen University from June 22 to 25, 2025. The International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE) joined as a co-organizer for the first time and introduced the "Best Poster Award" at this symposium to recognize outstanding achievements by young researchers.

The conference was inaugurated with a welcome address by Professor Zhong-Qun Tian, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Professor at Xiamen University, on the theme of "AI for Electrochemistry." Through intensive academic exchanges, the event featured 11 keynote lectures, 11 invited talks, and 5 oral presentations specifically dedicated to young scientists, showcasing innovative applications and breakthrough advances achieved by participants in key areas such as electrochemical spectroscopy, intelligent computation, experimental digitalization, and battery research and development using AI technologies.

Over one hundred experts and scholars from academic and research institutions worldwide gathered at the symposium. Prominent scientists—including Academician Weinan E from Peking University, Professor Clare Grey FRS from the University of Cambridge, Professor Bin Ren (Dean of the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Xiamen University), Professor Xin Xu from Fudan University, Professor Kwan-Wa Chan from the University of Hong Kong, Professor Axel Gross from Ulm University in Germany, and Professor Yoshitaka Tateyama from Japan’s National Institute for Materials Science—engaged in deep discussions and intellectual exchanges with many young, active researchers from both home and abroad, as well as industry representatives from companies such as Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL).

Centered around the core theme of "Scientific Intelligence Driving Innovation in Electrochemistry," iSAIEC 2025 carefully structured four cutting-edge academic topics. Following each presentation, thematic discussions sparked dynamic brainstorming sessions between speakers and attendees, offering diverse perspectives and inspiring new ideas:
Electrochemical Spectroscopy and AI for Science
Experimental Digitalization
Intelligent Computation
AI for Battery

To strengthen interaction and highlight the work of young researchers, the conference once again incorporated "flash talks" during the poster session. Nearly 20 young scientists efficiently shared their latest research progress, significantly enhancing the depth and vibrancy of poster interactions. After rigorous evaluation, eight outstanding posters were awarded the inaugural iSAIEC Best Poster Awards.

"Artificial intelligence holds tremendous potential and is advancing at an extraordinary pace. Although still in its 'youth,' AI is certain to inject powerful momentum into this century-old discipline and bring new hope for solving long-standing challenges in electrochemistry," said the organizers. The symposium welcomes scientists worldwide who are dedicated to interdisciplinary research at the intersection of electrochemistry and artificial intelligence to join hands in leading electrochemical research into a new era of intelligence, and looks forward to reuniting at the next iSAIEC.
Background
Initiated in 2023 by Academician Zhong-Qun Tian and Academician Weinan E, iSAIEC consistently focuses on the deep application and frontier expansion of scientific artificial intelligence (AI for Science) in electrochemistry. The symposium aims to bring together top-tier expertise across disciplines including electrochemistry, artificial intelligence, physics, and mathematics to promote interdisciplinary collaboration. Hosted by the Joint Laboratory of AI for Electrochemistry (AI4EC Lab) at Tan Kah Kee Innovation Laboratory, the conference is co-organized by the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Xiamen University, the National Key Laboratory of Surface and Interface Chemistry at Xiamen University, Beijing Institute of Scientific Intelligent Technology, the International Society of Electrochemistry, and Xiamen ZhiChu Large-Scale Equipment Co., Ltd. Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) served as the strategic partner of the conference.
